758,269 tourists visit Lumbini in 2012 [ 2012-04-09 ]
The Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) has reported that 758, 269 tourists visited Lumbini in 2012. The government had earlier set a target of attracting 1 million domestic and foreign tourists to the holy site. Tourist arrivals to Nepal via air in the month of March recorded a healthy rise of 37.2 percent compared to arrival figures of the same period last year. According to Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, a total of 63,799 foreign tourists visited the country during the month. The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has reported that its revenue for the first half of the current fiscal year has doubled despite the drop in number of tourists. According to CNP officials, the revenue collection increased due to hike in the entrance fee. At least 5,000 Indian tourists visited the temple since the middle of March last year, a staff at the Muktinath Area Development Committee, Rudra Nath Sharma Poudel said. Their visits had dwindled during the conflict, he added. A pilot with Manang Air, Sarina Gurung said as many as five flights were made now-a-days to Muktinath when weather remains fine.....
